Remembering Doug Ingalls
Sunday evening, June 14, 2009, the members of the Barre Players lit a candle and had a moment of silence for our esteemed and beloved friend, Doug Ingalls. Doug died suddenly on Saturday, June 13th, after working in his garden.
He was a brilliant and charismatic Director, actor and teacher as well as our past president and mentor. As Phyllis Southwick said when Doug returned to the Barre stage in the ‘90’s, “let’s welcome him back with open arms; lightening doesn’t strike in the same place very often!”
He was a special gift to us and we appreciated any and all of his contributions to our theater. Some among them start as early as the 1970’s when he was in the cast of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Other Summer Youth participation in those early years included being the Director of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf, co-director of Anne of Green Gables (with Elizabeth Hodgen), Director of Wind In The Willows and the musical Pom Pom Zombies.
He became Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird, Marley in A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley (two productions), in the cast for, Diary of Anne Frank, Greater Tuna, Inherit The Wind, Run For Your Wife and Flea In Her Ear.
For the Season plays, he directed Picnic, Our Country’s Good, Diary of Anne Frank and Macbeth. Musicals included Company, Once Upon A Mattress and Making Scents.
The Barre Players held a gathering on Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
downstairs in the theater to remember Doug. Many memories and thoughts of Doug were shared.
We will greatly miss him!
